About The Author:
Hi Lucy! Thanks so much for joining the Red Dawn blog tour! It’s such a privilege to be invited back to Moonlight Gleam’s for a second guest post. I’m thrilled to be here and to talk a little about my inspiration for the Crossroads Academy series.
Where to start? I guess it’s fair to say I’ve always had a thing for vampires. It’s probably also fair to say I’ll take them in any form, from Bram Stoker to Stephenie Meyer and all points in between. Whether they’re portrayed as undead creatures of the night or angsty teenagers struggling with adolescence, I just can’t seem to get enough. Mind you, the really creepy ones used to make me sleep with the lights on, but I think I’m over that now. Mostly.
So as someone who had the original Buffy the Vampire movie on VHS, it was probably just a matter of time until my own vampire tale took root. After all, they’re such prolific creatures. The amount of vampire lore out there is mind blowing, but that’s one of the things I love about them. There’s no ‘one kind’ of vampire. Readers are open to different interpretations leaving a lot of room for the author to flex their creative muscles and put a unique signature on the vamp world. The Crossroads Academy series is no exception.
Crossroads really started to take shape in my mind when I was working on my MBA. I’d be sitting in class after a long day at work and try as I might to focus on Finance, all I could think about was vampires.
It was really Katia that initially inspired me to write the Crossroads Academy series. She evolved in my daydreams as this strong-willed, flawed character with attitude to spare. I absolutely fell in love with the idea of an independent protag who wasn’t a wishy-washy wallflower and who could take care of herself and those around her. The more I thought about Katia and the more notes I jotted in my classes, the more Crossroads took shape in my mind. I simply had to write the story. It was the first time I’d written for pleasure in years and I relished it.
I really had no intention of publishing the manuscript and to be honest, there came a point about 40 pages in where I had to push Crossroads aside and focus on my classes. So there Crossroads sat, unfinished, on my hard drive for months.
When my father was diagnosed with cancer in February 2011, I was forced to reevaluate the things that were most important to me. I had always dreamed of being a published author, but it seemed like such an impossible goal. Still, as I watched my father attack his prognosis with gusto, I decided to chase my dream. My father inspired me to live with no regrets and take control of my destiny, and I’m proud to say that he saw me achieve my publishing dream.

When Katia enrolled at Crossroads Academy she knew things weren’t exactly going to be easy. The sole heir to the worlds’ most powerful vampire, her presence was bound to cause a stir. But nothing could have prepared her for this. Whispers follow everywhere she goes. So does trouble.
But Katia will do her time at Crossroads. After all, she’s only enrolled at the prestigious school for pure blood vampires to fulfill a promise to her Great Uncle Aldo. Tucked away in the Green Mountains of Vermont, Katia hopes to shed the demons of her past and focus on her education. Raised blissfully unaware of the entire vamp world, she’s got a lot of catching up to do.
As Katia learns more about this dark society and her own legacy, protecting her past becomes increasingly difficult. Bodies start turning up in nearby Rutland and Katia is sucked into a twisted web of danger and deceit. Haunted by nightmares she can’t explain and a thirst for blood that is never sated, Katia will do whatever it takes to keep her past buried. What choice does she have? Exposure will shake the Elder’s Council to its core and likely result in a death sentence at the hands of the Linkuri.
Nothing at Crossroads is what it seems and Katia’s secrets may be the darkest of them all.
