Want to know why!?!
Sarah Crossan grew up in Ireland AND England!
Two beautiful countries that I've always wanted to visit!
Earlier this year, Sarah Crossan released a children's novel written in verse named The Weight of Water, about a little girl and her mother leaving their home in search for her father. The Weight of Water was The Sunday Times Children's Book of the Week! Congratulations Sarah!
Sarah was a teacher, a freelance magazine writer, a book reviewer, AND an educational writer!
How's that for being awesome!?
How's that for being awesome!?
I cannot wait for BREATHE to be released! As soon as I heard about it, just HAD to pre-order a copy. What would you do if you lived in a world without air? I have no idea, but I plan on finding out what the three survivors in BREATHE do!
Everyone, mark your calendars on October 2nd for the release of BREATHE!
Guest Post:
What was
your inspiration for becoming a writer?
I have always been an avid reader. I love how transformative literature can be and I simply wanted to try to do this myself. It began at school where I wrote short stories and poems, and although I didn’t have the confidence to study creative writing at university until after I completed my first degree, I was always secretly writing.
What do
you enjoy most about writing?
I sometimes have a hard time speaking. I worked for many years as a teacher, so that probably sounds silly, but I find that when I have something important to say, I muddle my words and can never quite express myself clearly. When I write, I can edit my ideas and I’ve always liked that. Twitter and Facebook are a little scary to me because reactions are so immediate there’s little time for reflection before ‘publication’.
What
elements do you believe makes a good story?
It all depends on the type of story one is trying to tell, but generally speaking I’d say that the emotional landscape must be convincing. People like exciting stories, but we read to know ourselves through other characters and ultimately this is what readers remember.
When you
are not writing, what do you enjoy doing on your spare time?
When I have any spare time, I like to spend it with friends or family. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing so long as we’re together. In terms of hobbies, I practice yoga and I love to travel. I am also a big fan of tea!
Name the
top three things that you cannot live without?
The people I love. Great books. A decent night’s sleep.
Have
you ever envisioned yourself being a writer and having your work published?
Of course. It’s the first step to getting published. I have a strong belief in the power of positive energy. That doesn’t mean that when I found an agent I wasn’t gobsmacked though!
Which
character in Breathe do you believe you relate to most and why?
Every time I am asked this question, I give a different answer depending on how I am feeling on a particular day. Today I feel I can relate to Bea because I’ve been feeling a lot of love for my parents recently.
Is there
a message/lesson that you would like your readers to take away from the novel?
I don’t think novels should be preachy, but I suppose the environmentalist aspect of the novel is blatant. I hope it will make people think about the way we consume and how the planet is suffering as a consequence.
If you
are currently working on another novel, can you give us a hint on what you have
in store for your readers?
BREATHE:
Release Date:October 2, 2012
Publisher: Greenwillow
Publisher: Greenwillow
Inhale. Exhale. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe . . .
The world is dead.
The survivors live under the protection of Breathe, the corporation that found a way to manufacture oxygen-rich air.
ALINA
has been stealing for a long time. She’s a little jittery, but not terrified. All she knows is that she’s never been caught before. If she’s careful, it’ll be easy. If she’s careful.
QUINN
should be worried about Alina and a bit afraid for himself, too, but even though this is dangerous, it’s also the most interesting thing to happen to him in ages. It isn’t every day that the girl of your dreams asks you to rescue her.
BEA
wants to tell him that none of this is fair; they’d planned a trip together, the two of them, and she’d hoped he’d discover her out here, not another girl.
And as they walk into the Outlands with two days’ worth of oxygen in their tanks, everything they believe will be shattered. Will they be able to make it back? Will they want to?

This book captured my interest. I mean who wouldn't want to read a book about something that is so abundant right now and gets luxurious after some time. I like Breathe's plot and I would like to see more of its world. Thanks for the giveaway too!
ReplyDeleteclarissa(dot)bulatao(at)yahoo(dot)com
This book has been on my TBR list for forever and a day, so thank you for the opportunity to win it! I liked the question in the interview when you asked which character the author could relate to the most and she told you her honest answer: it depends on the day and her mood. I mean, if you can somehow relate to different characters depending on your mood, that's a really big positive in my book. It means that all characters are relatable and that you, as a reader, will probably become more emotionally invested in the story because you can relate to them. If that's the case, the book will be hard to put down, and you can figure out the rest ;) Relating to characters is important to me, so I really liked her answer. Plus, I wouldn't mind being like Bea either! haha Thank you!
