Head Conversations:
I think most people would agree that hearing voices in your
head is strange. Stranger still, is when the voices talk back when you
purposely try to ignore them. I learned at a very early age it was just better
to write about them than to forget about them. I by no means have a dog in my
head telling me to kill people. I don’t think I am some divine prophet sent by
the one true being, and telling you the mother ship is hours away from
touchdown.
No, my brain works a little bit differently. The head
conversation doesn’t just appear out of nowhere it derived from something as
simple as, why do we call bread, bread. And then the conversation begins. It
sounds crazy but I promise it’s not. I
was always that kid that thought outside of the box. Literally.
I remember my science teacher saying choose a partner and
think of something brilliant. BRILLIANT! I remember my fifth grade partner. Her
name was Christine. I won’t give out her last name, because that would just be
rude… Anyway we choose, “Are there particles in the air you breathe” It was a
simple experiment. We got some cans, opened them up and set up some different
test variables. All had a constant. Vaseline. Then we covered some left some
partially exposed to the elements and then left some completely open.
Now, I’d been having conversations in my head long before
this experiment. Truly, I was a very inventive child. :)
I started thinking, what if we are trapping particles that
are “alive” and their particle “mom” and “dad” would miss them if we caught
them? What if the Vaseline is really an evil slimy goo that sucks the life
right out of the particle? The particle needs to live to right? For my efforts
I received a major headache, because the thoughts and conversations wouldn’t
stop. I’d invented this entire grand plot to kill particles and that we were
destroying worlds. Christine didn’t think so by the way. And we won first place
that year too. Because there are particles in the air you breathe. DUH!
I swear this is going somewhere.
Any who, that’s how these conversations in my head come
about, like with Enslaved. I’m sitting in the car Maroon 5’s Secret comes on
and then I start thinking. What if I had characters who have a one night stand,
then meet up five years later? What if the male character was a werewolf, and
there were certain standards that he had to adhere to? Ooh and what if I threw
in the fact he already had a girl? A stupid girl but a girl none the less.
I literally start asking these questions and then I get
answers. I’m about to drop a secret. The person who answered those questions
was none other than Royce.
Actual Head Conversation:
Me: What if they are in the jungle.
Royce: {at the time was an unknown character to me} Jungle
sex has been overdone, try again.
Me: Jungle sex with glow bugs?
Royce: You mean the lightening bugs right? The one you
caught as a kid? It could work but what else would you stick in there? I mean
sex in the jungle with bugs who’s ass light up? Not getting a good picture here
kiddo.
Me: What if it’s up against a cliff wall with a sheer drop
covered in Moss with night orchids.
Royce: Ehh. It could work.
That is sort of how the conversation went, I’m leaving out
some key words, but that’s pretty much how it goes for me. Every single time. I
like Royce, he’s funny and sarcastic and says outlandish things. But, he was a
constant when writing Enslaved and you’ll see a lot of him in the book, egging
the characters on, pushing and pulling them this way and that with his offhand
remarks. He’s classic!
Thanks for taking the time to read the post! If you haven’t
picked up a copy of Enslaved In Shadows, today would totally be a good day to
buy it! I wouldn’t be a bad idea. Swear!
Ciao! Tigris ♥

That was funny :). Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun post. I sometimes have conversations with the voices in my head but it gets me nowhere. This book sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the lovely comments and thanks to moon light gleam for having me!
ReplyDeleteHi Tigris. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who hears voices and talks to them. I've done it outloud before and my husband is like, who are you talking to? I even argue with them from time to time. SSSshhhh! Don't tell anyone, I wouldn't want to be fitted for a long sleeved white coat.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your release!!!!
