Shannon Duffy writes young adult and middle grade fiction. She grew up on the beautiful east coast of Canada and now lives in Ontario, Canada. She is the mom of one boy, Gabriel, her angel. She loves writing, reading, working out, soccer, and the sport of champions-shopping. She is the author of the young adult paranormal romance, SPECTRAL. Her upcoming middle grade fantasy novel, GABRIEL STONE AND THE DIVINITY OF VALTA is scheduled for a January 2013 release.

SPECTRAL is about a girl named Jewel. Her and her family
have been on the run since Jewel’s birth…but from what? Jewel believes it’s
because of something her father did and that they are on the run from the mob.
One day when Jewel overhears a conversation, she realizes that the reality is
very different and scarier than what she could have ever imagined.
At this latest location, Jewel also meets two hot guys at
school that are both giving her attention. When one suddenly displays magical
powers, claims to be her guardian, and tells her that everything she has been
told is a lie, she has to try unraveling the pieces in her life, find out the
truth and who she can even believe…and make it to her 17th birthday
alive. With kidnappings, a magical witchcraft book, covens hunting her, unexplained
powers appearing, and two boys competing for her heart, things get a lot more
complicated than Jewel bargained for.
My inspiration for
becoming a writer probably stemmed from high school and my English teacher, Mr.
Rowsell. I remember wanting to hand in great pieces for assignments in creative
writing. When he’d read some of my work aloud, it made me feel so proud of
myself for working hard, and also made me believe in myself. Add to that two
very supportive parents who bought me tons of books and also loved to read my
writing, and the bug was set. But, it was really after my son was born that I
decided to write my first novel. I thought I’d write a book for him—with him
(Gabriel) as the main character. So, Gabe was a big inspiration for sure. That
middle grade fantasy book, titled, Gabriel Stone and the
Divinity of Valta, comes out Jan 1st/13.
