MOONLIGHT REFLECTED IN DROP OF BLOOD (or why do you write such dark stuff Mr. Tuck?)
James R. Tuck
Yes, I am okay. No, I don't need counseling. Please don't worry. I am one of the most stable individuals you will ever meet. I am easy-going, peaceful, have a wonderful family, and a double career that I love. My world is filled with sunshine and laughter.
But you wouldn't know it by the books I write.
Nope. The books I write are DARK. They have hard edges to them. They are filled with bloodshed and violence. My characters get hurt. They hurt others. They die. Why would I want to write about such nightmarish stuff?
It's simple really.
Because I like it.
But there is another reason. You want to know what it is? Okay, I'll tell you, but you have to come close.
I write such dark stories because you like to read them.
Don't bother denying it or lying to me or yourself. I know you do. You want blood to splash on the page. You want to smell the cordite in the air. You want that dark, delicious thrill that tickles deep inside you when the monster might just win. How do I know you so well? That's easy. I know you because I am you.
I love to read these things too. I wrote THAT THING AT THE ZOO and BLOOD AND BULLETS because they are stories I want to read.
When I started writing I had a simple goal. I wanted the Deacon Chalk books to read as if they were real. Now crazy stuff happens in these books. You get vampires, Were-spiders, undead strippers, cursed immortals, and other supernatural mayhem. I know none of that is real. But I sat down and wrote the book as if they were.
If this stuff happened, if it really existed, this is how they would be. The monsters would be monstrous. They would be evil. They would wade through rivers of blood to drink the life of the innocent.
Now what kind of man would it take to stop monsters like that?
A hard man. A damaged man. A man who walks so close to the edge that sometimes he falls over it. He would be deeply flawed and prone to violence. But he would be a hero. He would be the man that would stand between the innocents and the monsters and hold the line no matter the cost. He would defend the helpless regardless of the consequence to himself. He would sacrifice everything in him to keep you safe.
He would be a man like Deacon Chalk.
Blood and Bullets:
Author: James R. Tuck
Publication Date: February 7, 2012
Publisher: Kensington Books
Since hunting down the monster who took the lives of his wife and children five years ago, occult bounty-hunter Deacon Chalk has lived by only one rule.
He does not work for the monsters. He kills them.
So why would a vampire try to hire him as protection against another monster hunter? After enforcing his only rule Deacon goes to meet the target, a vampire slayer named Nyteblade. Professional courtesy demands he tell this Nyteblade the vampires are hiring people to kill him. Deacon finds the vampire slayer waiting in an alley.
Waiting to stake him.
He discovers that Nyteblade is a bumbling, fumbling, wanna-be instead of a badass vampire hunter. Someone who needs saving from monsters instead of the other way around. This is proven when a horde of vampires descend and he has to escape while trying to keep Nyteblade alive.
Someone has set Deacon up. Someone wants him dead.
Someone should have sent more vampires.
Bound and determined, Deacon will find out who tried to kill him no matter how many bloodsuckers, were-spiders, cursed immortals, undead strippers, or insanely powerful hell-bitches he has to wade through.
It's going to be a long night.

Advance Praise for BLOOD AND BULLETS from other amazing authors
"A dark, damaged, lonely man takes on the undead underworld and the monsters who live in it. Deacon Chalk kicks monster ass!"
Faith Hunter –NY Times bestselling author of the Jane Yellowrock series and the Rogue Mage series
"Tuck's Deacon Chalk is one bad-ass vampire killer with an arsenal to rival a small nation's and an unlikely posse--a priest, an Immortal and a lycanthrope. Blood and Bullets will keep you on the edge of your seat page after page. I loved it."
Jeanne C. Stein - author of the Anna Strong Chronicles
"BLOOD AND BULLETS certainly lives up to its name. Sort of a cross between Kill Bill and From Dusk Till Dawn, James R. Tuck's debut novel delivers a fast-paced, action-filled story that kicks off his new series with a bang. Literally. This is not your daughter's vampire book! There are no brooding, star-crossed lovers (sparkly or otherwise), no sexy vampires searching for their soul mates. Tuck gets back to basics in a world where monsters are evil and someone has to kill them. Enter the hero: a tattooed and tortured gun-slinging, vampire-slaying bad ass. If Dirty Harry and Anita Blake had a love child, he would be Deacon Chalk. I was hooked from the beginning to the end! Ladies, if Dark Urban Fantasy is not your cup of tea, then buy it for the man in your life. It's an action movie in print and the guys will love it!"
Jenna Maclaine- Author of the Cin Craven series
"BLOOD AND BULLETS is bursting at the seams with picture-painting language and satisfying surprises. Deacon Chalk is so vividly drawn you can almost reach out and stroke his goatee. Rapid fire action never stops, and Deacon's irresistible voice propels you along for the ride. When I finished this book I was out of breath!"
Annabel Joseph- Bestselling author of Club Mephisto and many other fine titles.
"Blood & Bullets is a straight-up meat ‘n potatoes testosterone ass-kicker that delivers you thrills, chills, and kills with a rock-steady hand, unblinking eye, and no mercy for the things that go bump in the night. If you’re hungry for supernatural adventure free of trembling romance or are SICK of sad vampires, mainline this book RIGHT NOW – Deacon Chalk is the Charles Bronson of urban fantasy, guaranteed 100% BS-free.
Relentless, vicious, and yet with a core of genuine humanity the monsters can’t touch – Deacon’s a man pushed to the edge by the forces of darkness, and instead of falling in, he’s chosen to PUSH BACK in spectacular fashion.
If you’ve got a vampire bothering your daughter, call in Mr. Chalk – within fifteen minutes, you’ll be sweeping the vampire out the door with a broom."
Matt R. Jones- Author of the Hollywood Vampires series.
"Excellent book, fast pace, brutal, a roller coaster adrenaline ride and you don't even have to get off the sofa to experience it. Deacon Chalk is who the monsters are afraid of!"
Adrienne Wilder - Author of the City Of Dragons series and the Darwin's Theory series
