 Guest Post:

A weird but very true spooky story

When I was growing up, we moved around and lived in so many different places and in new houses all the time, it never bothered me and I cannot remember much about the houses etc except for this one.
I was 12 when we moved in there, a normal average house, a massive garden that was split in half, my mother decided to have one half to use as the ‘posh’ area and the upper half myself and my siblings could use to play in. It had awesomely long grass, and because I was a bit of a tomboy I loved to collect insect, at the time, it was grasshoppers, that I would inspect for some strange reason, I cannot think why I wanted to do that.
Now, an insect comes near me and I run away screaming, I do not like creepy crawlies.

Anyway, while we were there loads of things started to happen there was nothing that sparked it off at all. My younger sister woke up screaming one night, when we asked her what was wrong she swore blind that there were a couple of dogs asleep on the end of her bed. Now we did not have any dogs at all, the only animals we had were hamsters and gerbils so this was weird. Of course, I teased my sister intensely about what she saw but I was kid myself lol.

The next time anything spooky happened was to me. I was laid in bed with my eyes closed (pretending to be asleep so I wouldn’t get into trouble) and had this strange feeling that I was being watched, and then the bottom of my bed sunk down as if someone had sat on my bed.

Within minutes, the bed felt normal but my younger sister’s teddy was making a noise, this particular teddy had a pull string to activate the voice and it started talking. When I peeked over to my sisters side of the room the teddy was floating in the air, at first I thought my sister was messing about so I shouted at her and turned over in bed, fuming with her for trying to get her own back for all my teasing.

Then the sinking sensation on my bed started again, I did not want to look but at the time, I was incredibly curious to see what was happening. I pulled the duvet back and stared, one of my books was floating in the air, the pages were being turned on their own and I could this weird laughing that sounded female...
Spooked? Yes definitely. I scrambled out of bed, down the stairs and got into bed with my mother, and boy I did not live that down with my sisters.

It wasn’t until a few days later when my mother was talking to the elderly neighbour that he happened to mention an old woman had died a month before we had moved in, and she had two dogs that had died in the room my sister and me slept in. Coincidently the room we slept in was also the old woman’s bedroom.
So that was it, the house was haunted. My sister constantly made ghost noises at me, her way I suppose of getting me back for all my teasing lol.

The ghost was not dangerous though, at one point we had a trespasser in the back garden, this man jumped over the 6ft fence, whatever he wanted he certainly wouldn’t have got because we didn’t have much growing up.

Anyway, he freaked out apparently; when the police arrived, he was standing still in the garden staring at my bedroom window. The police asked my mother if she had our grandmother staying with us, when we replied no, they were like so who is the old woman in the bedroom window. The old lady had manifested herself and scared away the intruder which was awesome, but I can say I didn’t really sleep all that good in that particular house and I wouldn’t go upstairs on my own either, logically there was nothing to be worried about but it was a ghost and I wasn’t taking any chances.

According to the police the trespasser was shaking uncontrollably when they took him away, he was muttering something about some grey fog that looked like an old woman in the window, staring down at him with eyes that had enough power and hate it scared him out of his wits!

He certainly never turned up again to try and trespass in our garden!

Needless to say my sisters, one older and one younger, thought me being scared as tomboyish as I was, was the most hilarious thing in the world and I constantly found myself teased and I never did live it down.

This is my true Halloween story, and it really did happen to me when I was a kid. If you want to be scared some more this Halloween try out my stories Death Bite, Hacked Up, A Real Slasher and Bloodthirsty Gruesome Tales or try one of the many vampire stories I’ve got out there in particular Order of Blood!
I can honestly say writing horror scares me as much as it does anyone who reads them, most of the time I just want to dive back under the blankets and stay there till the bogey man goes away!

 Guest Post:

I am truly honored to be doing a guest post on Moonlight Gleam's blog. I have only recently met Lucy but I consider her a dear friend.  So, thank you Lucy for having me on your blog.

When Lucy was looking for guest bloggers I knew I had to jump at this chance and with it being a Halloween themed event happening I was flipping and flopping about what I wanted to write about. I think part of me knew what I wanted to write about  but waited until almost the very end to finally sit down and do this.

Since today is Halloween (Happy Halloween everyone) I thought the most approiate subject should be the Halloween Candy. Who doesn't like trick or treating or the Halloween Candy?

Growing up I lived in the country so going trick or treating was always fun and scary because if you lived or live in the country you know what I mean with the darkness and the long roads to get to the houses. We use to get together as a group and would walk miles upon miles to fill up our pillow cases full of all kinds of goodies. We would be out for hours but we always came home with a pillowcase filled to the very top. Those were great memories.

Now forward many, many, many years later I am able to partake in trick or treating again with my son. Michael.  He loves going trick or treating and he can be out for hours if we let him. But for me my favorite memory of his trick or treating would be his second year. The first year he had no idea what it was and really wanted nothing to do with it then fast forward the following year and to see his face and expression was priceless because it clicked for him and he knew that ringing people's bells gave him candy. That year it was so hard to get him home because he had to go to almost everyones house in our little area. That by far was my favorite trick or treating with him.

Now with trick or treating comes the candy and here are my absolute favorites are the mini bars and starbursts (insert pic here) and I have added Michael's favorites and his are Rocket candies, lollipops, M&Ms, Popeye candy and fuzzy peaches.

I am always including a picture of Michael dressed up in his Halloween costume. This was taken on Friday October 28th on his way to a Halloween party.

Thanks Lucy for having me on your blog.

Please welcome Annmarie, a great book blogger friend of mine over at Best Books! Annmarie has kindly agreed to participate in the Feast of Screams and is here to share her favorite Halloween reads!

 About The Blogger:

Hi I’m Annmarie
I’m 22 and have two beautiful kids I live in England.
As a mum I spend lots of my time with the kids but when I do have free time I spend it on Best books which is run by me and my mate Alice. I love to read young adult books of all kinds.
I have a massive collection of books that keep me busy. My other hobbies are writing and drawing. I love animals and talking to friends on facebook.
One of my favourite holidays is Halloween I love watching horror movies and books. While I don’t really like trick or treating I do like doing something special for the kids cutting up faces on pumpkins making scary pictures and watching Scooby doo with the kids. (My two kids are too young to watch real horrors).
I hope everyone has a great Halloween happy reading.

 Guest Post:

Hi all I was so please to be asked to guest post on the blog for Halloween. I’m a massive fan of scary books ghost, zombies anything that goes bump in the night I will happily read it. For my post I wanted to share my top five scary reads all the books I pick on my list well be young adult so need to fear much: D

At five is...

Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts

Four teenagers on the same road in a world gone mad. Struggling to survive, clinging on to love and meaning wherever it can be found. THE DARK INSIDE is a stunning, cinematic thriller: 28 DAYS LATER meets THE ROAD.

Since mankind began, civilizations have always fallen: the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs…. Now it’s our turn.

Huge earthquakes rock the world. Cities are destroyed. But something even worse is happening. An ancient evil has been unleashed, hooking on to weakness, turning the unwary into hunters, killers, crazies.

Mason: His mother is dying after a terrible car accident. As he endures a last vigil at her hospital bed, his school is bombed and razed to the ground. Everyone he knows is killed.

Aries: A school bus, an aftershock and a crash. Pulled out of the wreckage by a mysterious stranger, she’s about to discover a world changed forever.

Clementine: An emergency meeting at the town hall that descends into murderous chaos. Outside the rest of their community encircle with weapons. How can those you trust turn into savage strangers?

Michael: A brutal road rage incident. When the police arrive on the scene they gun down the guilty and turn on the by-standing crowd. Where do you go for justice when even the lawmakers have turned bad?
My comments: I was lucky enough to get a ARC of this book before it was released as soon as I started the book you knew it was going to be one scary ride. You follow the stories of a few characters and each is trying to survive what’s going on. A brilliant book that made you wonder what really does on in people’s minds.

At four is...

The Hunting Ground by Cliff McNish

When Elliott and his brother move into the old and crumbling Glebe House they don't expect to find themselves sharing it with ghosts. But soon sinister events are unfolding. An old diary reveals glimpses of the mansion's past - and of a terrible tragedy. An old woman talks to ghosts - but is she in fact being controlled by them? And what of the sinister East Wing - a hideous labyrinth devised by a truly twisted mind? Can Elliott and his family escape the clutches of Glebe House? Or will they end up trapped in the endless maze of corridors, forever hunted by the dead?
My comments: This book was like a haunted house story but with lots more. The Evil in this house gave me chills and when you see the little girls with evil ideas you shiver with fear. There is no romance in this book but there is enough spooky stuff to shack a stick at.

At three is...

Soulless by Christopher Golden

Times Square, New York City: The first ever mass séance is broadcasting live on the Sunrise morning show. If it works, the spirits of the departed on the other side will have a brief window — just a few minutes — to send a final message to their grieving loved ones.
Clasping hands in an impenetrable grip, three mediums call to their spirit guides as the audience looks on in breathless anticipation. The mediums slump over, slackjawed — catatonic. And in cemeteries surrounding Manhattan, fragments of old corpses dig themselves out of the ground....
The spirits have returned. The dead are walking. They will seek out those who loved them in life, those they left behind...but they are savage and they are hungry. They are no longer your mother or father, your brother or sister, your best friend or lover.
The horror spreads quickly, droves of the ravenous dead seeking out the living — shredding flesh from bone, feeding. But a disparate group of unlikely heroes — two headstrong college rivals, a troubled gang member, a teenage pop star and her bodyguard — is making its way to the center of the nightmare, fighting to protect their loved ones, fighting for their lives, and fighting to end the madness.
My comments: What can I say about this book, lots of blood and zombies. There were lots of people trying to survive. A chilling book that makes you wonder what would you do if the dead came to get you.

At two is...

Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves

Kit and Fancy Cordelle are sisters of the best kind: best friends, best confidantes, and best accomplices. The daughters of the infamous Bonesaw Killer, Kit and Fancy are used to feeling like outsiders, and that’s just the way they like it. But in Portero, where the weird and wild run rampant, the Cordelle sisters are hardly the oddest or most dangerous creatures around.
It’s no surprise when Kit and Fancy start to give in to their deepest desire—the desire to kill. What starts as a fascination with slicing open and stitching up quickly spirals into a gratifying murder spree. Of course, the sisters aren’t killing just anyone, only the people who truly deserve it. But the girls have learned from the mistakes of their father, and know that a shred of evidence could get them caught. So when Fancy stumbles upon a mysterious and invisible doorway to another world, she opens a door to endless possibilities….
My comment: While this book may not have zombies the real monsters are the two main characters. I would not like to meet these two girls in a dark alley no thank you. They kill with no fear and have fun doing it.

And finally at number one is......

They'll chase you. They'll rip you open. They'll feed on you...When the sickness came, every parent, policeman, politician - every adult - fell ill. The lucky ones died. The others are crazed, confused and hungry. Only children under fourteen remain, and they're fighting to survive. Now there are rumours of a safe place to hide. And so a gang of children begin their quest across London, where all through the city - down alleyways, in deserted houses, underground - the grown-ups lie in wait. But can they make it there - alive?
My comment: So far this is the best young adult horror series i have ever read. There is death, zombie like monsters that seem to get smarter and lots and lots of ‘’run there coming’’ this book is jam packed with horror and survival a great read for upcoming Halloween.
I really hope you guys like my top five scary books but if you would like some romance with your spooky books try Anna dressed in blood by Kendare Blake or Possess by Grethen Mcneil. There are all kinds of great books to read but just for Halloween let us put down the love stories and pick up a horror that leaves you hiding under the covers and keeping the lights on.

Thanks again for having me here and I hope that I can guest post again soon
Annmarie Ager from best books :D happy reading.
