Author Guest Post With Nadine Rose Larter & GIVEAWAY!

Nadine Rose Larter has kindly agreed to guest post here about her debut release .

 About The Author:

My name is Nadine Rose Larter and I was born in a small South African town called Molteno, somewhere in the heart of the Karoo. After my last year of high school I moved with my family to the city of Port Elizabeth where I now live with my son, my fiancĂ©, and my two step children. I’m a bit of a free-spirit and have never been happy having a “day job”. I spend my days writing, or thinking about writing. Sometimes I do a bit of work.

I have always been a writer. I started writing poems and short stories when I was little, and I have intermittently kept diaries since I was about nine years old. In the last two years I have started taking my writing more seriously and have made the decision to become a full-time author. I have no formal education, aside from a year of Literature and Creative Writing study, but I am constantly trying to grow as a writer. Sometimes being a wife and mom makes fitting it all in a little tough but I am learning how to juggle it all slowly.

I chose to self publish simply because it feels like taking my future into my own hands and running with it. There are no excuses when it is just you. The self-accountability can be thrilling sometimes. Being ready and then actually being able to move forward instead of waiting to hear from publishers has been a special kind of blessing. I am not closed to the idea of having a publisher, I am just ready to go on without one for now.

I write regularly on these four websites:

 Guest Post:

Greetings Moonlight Gleamers!

I would like to first take the opportunity to say thanks to Lucy for inviting me here today. It is so exciting when someone shows an interest in your work and it is always a thrill to be able to share ones passions with a new audience. Thank you to you, too, for popping in to see what I have to say.

Next month, my first novel, Coffee at Little Angels finally comes out in paperback. I have worked pretty hard to get it all to this place and though I’ve done it mostly on my own, I would never have coped without the help of some pretty damn incredible friends and family members.

A bit about my book and why you might like to read it...

“Phillip, Sarah, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Maxine, Grant, Melanie and Josh grew up in a small town where they spent their high school years together as an inseparable clique. But high school has ended, and they are all living their own “grown up” lives, each under the impression that their group has basically come to an end. When Phillip dies in a hit and run accident, Kaitlyn summons the others to all come back home, forcing a reunion that no one is particularly interested in partaking in.
Coffee at Little Angels follows how each character deals with the death of a childhood friend while at the same time dealing with their own ignored demons after years of separation. Events unfold as the group tries to rekindle the friendship they once shared to honour the memory of a friend they will never see again.”

I wrote Coffee at Little Angels after a high school friend of mine died in a car accident. I locked on to the idea that had he died just two or three years earlier his death would have been even more excruciating to deal with. I was devastated by the loss of course. This was the boy who gave me my first kiss. He was a sweetheart with blue eyes and a beautiful smile. And he is missed by many. Including myself. But...in my case I don’t always miss him as though he is dead. I simply miss him as someone I haven’t seen in a while. Someone who I would love to catch up with sometime, should we be fortunate enough to bump into each other in the street. It often feels simply as if we no longer live in the same town.

I tried to write this book in a way that just about anyone can relate to it. It’s not aimed at any specific demographic and was not designed to carry across any specific message or agenda. You may notice that there are few proper nouns in this novel. There are no last names or town names. I didn’t forget to put them in. I left them out because I hope that Coffee at Little Angels will be the kind of novel that absolutely anyone can pick up and feel like they understand it. I hope that you will pick it up and feel like it could be about you.  Other than that, Coffee at Little Angels is just a book. I do hope you like it, but if you don’t, I will simply try harder with the next one.

Other ongoing projects...

One of my biggest writing loves is an internet project I created called The Poetry Project. Basically The Poetry Project is a project where South African poets and photographers get together to express their works symbiotically. Through this project I have met some of the most incredible people in this country and it has truly been such a blessing to get to know these people. I have taken a giant break from The Poetry Project over the last couple of months because I have been so focused on getting my book out, but I will soon be reviving the project and injecting new life into it, with the help of some old friends and hopefully some new ones too.  Once the first Poetry Project book is out I am even considering making it an international project because I think the comparison between different countries and different styles of writing and taking pictures could prove to be quite interesting.

For more information visit The Poetry Project online: http://www.thepoetryproject.co.za/

Otherwise my second home is The Katalina Playroom. Here I share my love for literature and writing. I do blog challenges and pretty much indulge in whatever takes my fancy at any particular moment. I like to think that it is a place where you can find some good inspiration as a writer. http://katalina.co.za/

Thank you again for having me here today. I wish you all day of happy surprises!

Author Guest Post With Ley Mesina

Ley Mesina has kindly agreed to guest post here about her debut release Reborn: A Goddess of Night Novella (Book One).

 About The Author:

Ley Mesina spent most of her childhood and young adult life writing short stories. She planned to teach after she graduated with her Master’s in Psychology but, instead, decided to pursue her passion for writing.

Ley lives in Southern California with her husband and children and is a frequent visitor of her own imagination (Source: Authors).

 Guest Post:

When did you start writing?
I started writing at an early age.  In elementary school we would have to write short stories and sometimes there would be contests.  I remember my teachers telling me that my writing was very good, but it was too “scary” for school material. My writing continued throughout high school, and then I took a hiatus for a few years when I was going through my Bachelor's degree.  The program was pretty intense and I was consumed with writing a paper (sometimes two) each week.  I started writing again toward the end of my degree.  I've had several stories started but unfinished.  Then I came up with Reborn and started writing non-stop once I graduated with my Master's in Psychology in 2010. I was planning to teach, but during that time schools had put a freeze on any more hires, so I thought it was a perfect time to pursue my passion in writing. The truth of the matter is I enjoy writing! I'm perfectly content writing books because in a world where most (not all, but most) things are so serious, where responsibility is always a priority, getting lost in my imagination is a sense of release and freedom that I've never felt. It's like going on vacation.  When I write, I get to live in that world and I feel connected to the characters I create. It's truly an amazing experience and I want to share it with the world.

Which writers inspire you?
When I was younger, my biggest inspiration was R.L. Stine.  I really enjoyed his books and I wanted to write books just like him.  Edgar Allan Poe also fascinated me, as well as William Shakespeare and Greek Mythology. As I grew older my interests expanded and I would read just about anything that caught my attention.  I have to say that I have a wider range of interests and that’s the way I like it. Life is too short to not explore (whether in real life or imagination).
There are a few authors’ I enjoy picking up books from.  Agatha Christie and Mary Higgins Clark for suspense novels, Jane Green for Chic-Lit, and Melody Carlson for her Christmas stories (The Christmas Bus is a book I read every year during the holidays). But...R.L. Stine and Edgar Allan Poe are still and always will be a favorite.

How did you come up with the story for Reborn?
I had several stories at the time but none of them felt right. So I took some time to re-evaluate. During this time there was so much hype about vampires and werewolves that I just thought, “why not write about vampires? It’s what’s “in” right now and it’s something that interests me. As I was thinking about the storyline, I thought it would be a great twist to add witches into the mix. Then I came up with the idea of incorporating mythology and thought it would be perfect if I combined that concept with my witches.

Do you strictly write Urban Fantasies?
For right now, yes. I think I will always write Urban Fantasy books, but I would love to explore my writing. In addition to the Fantasy books I have outlined for next few years, I have plans to write a chick-lit book, a Christmas book, and a book of poems. I know it may sound bizarre, but I’m always up for trying something different.  Like I said, I have a wide range of interests and to keep them bottled up because I only focus on one kind of genre wouldn’t be fair to me or my readers.

Do you have any parting thoughts for your readers?
Writing has always been such a big part of my life and I just want to be able to share it with them. I’m grateful for everyone who has supported my writing, the newcomers who have just discovered my books, and even those that didn’t like it so much. All the ups and downs have made me grow as a writer and I’ve learned to appreciate the good with the bad.

Changeling Dream by Dani Harper

Title: Changeling Dream
Author: Dani Harper
Publisher: Kensington
Format: Paperback
Publication Date: June 28, 2011
Overall: 5/5
Source: ARC received for review.
In times of stress Jillian Descharme has always found calm in her dream of a great white wolf with haunting blue eyes. But she is startled when the visions return and this time seem so real. Late at night he comes to her, speaks to her, touches her. It's almost as if he's alive...

Thirty years ago James Macleod lost his wife and unborn child to a killer bent on destroying the Changelings. Though he longed for death, his animal instinct fought for survival and James has been a wolf ever since. Yet now a woman has reawakened the man in him, taming wild instincts but arousing still wilder needs. With his ancient enemy hunting the legendary white wolf, James must fight for new life, new hope, new love.
 My Review:

After the murder of his wife and unborn child, James Macleod isolates himself from everyone he knows, and has been living as a wolf ever since. Thirty years later, James is drawn back to his home town for reasons unknown to him at first, something that may give him a reason to become human again…

Jillian Descharme has been hired by Connor Macleod as he is in desperate need of another vet around the office. She accepts the position and moves across the country to a small town in Northern Canada. The town’s residents befriend her shortly after her arrival, creating many new friends. Although Jillian seems to be enjoying the experience, there is a secret she has not revealed to anyone. Emotionally, Jillian is broken, she was attacked when she was just a young girl and not by one, but by several men. Jillian recalls seeing a white wolf with blue eyes appeared that night just after the attack, the wolf had saved her life. When the morning arrived and someone found her, the wolf was nowhere to be found.

Over the years Jillian would see the wolf in her dreams whenever she began to stress, hearing him tell her that he’s there with her, calming her instantly. Jillian hopes that she encounters the wolf again someday, to confirm her sanity, to feed her obsession, and just to see it again one last time…

Changeling Dream is book two in the Changeling series, following Changeling Moon. Just when you think the series cannot get any better, Changeling Dream proves the theory wrong. Readers will be overwhelmed with emotion by these two broken characters, especially once they encounter one another. Dani Harper illustrates each of their vulnerabilities by detailing background stories of the characters, and revealing their connection to one another. Jillian and James together heal their wounds and overcome their fears. Changeling Dream takes a slightly more serious tone, addressing strong subject matter such as rape and depression.

My favorite element in Changeling Dream is how secondary characters in Changeling Moon came forward, playing important roles in Changeling Dream. I also enjoyed that more supernatural abilities as well as new characters are presented in this novel. The story focuses on James, Connor’s older brother who lost his way when everything that mattered to him was taken away many years ago. Jillian and James are connected, finally being able to heal when they meet again.

Dani Harper should be commended for her wonderful imagination with this captivating series, having one story flow smoothly to the next. I can definitely say that I am looking forward to the next installment of this series, Changeling Dawn, releasing January 2012. I recommend this novel to those who enjoy Paranormal Romance and shapeshifter tales.

Must read! Highly Recommended!

Changeling Moon by Dani Harper

Title: Changeling Moon
Author: Dani Harper
Publisher: Kensington
Format: Paperback
Pages: 368
Publication Date: May 31, 2011
Overall: 5/5
Source: Received for review.
"Dani Harper breathes life into her characters." —Coffee Time Romance
He roams the moonlit wilderness, his every sense and instinct on high alert. Changeling wolf Connor Macleod and his Pack have never feared anything—until the night human Zoey Tyler barely escapes a rogue werewolf's vicious attack.
"I would love to read more of the Macleod clan!" —Fallen Angel Reviews
As the full moon approaches, Zoey has no idea of the changes that are coming, and only Connor can show her what she is, and help her master the wildness inside. With her initiation into the Pack just days away and a terrifying predator on the loose, the tentative bonds of trust and tenderness are their only weapons against a force red in tooth, claw. . .and ultimate evil.
"Hot sex, hotter action, and a story that won't turn you loose. It just doesn't get any better..." —Kate Douglas
 My Review:

Zoey Taylor has a secret, an ability that she wishes she never had. She moves to a small town away from the big city, running away from her fears in hopes of starting new and to discover herself. Zoey’s transition is smooth at first, obtaining a position as the new editor for the town’s paper. One night, after a cold and icey storm, she gets attacked by a wolf on her way to her car. It isn’t until Zoey faces the creature while fighting for her life on the roof of her car that she realizes this is no ordinary wolf. Out of nowhere, a man comes rushing out of the dark and saves her, moments after the wolf bites her leg.

As she tries to tell the town residents of the attack, no one seems to believe that she was attacked by a wolf, and insist it was just a dog. The only person who doesn’t deny the wolf attack, is the handsome man who saved her that night, Connor Macleod.

Zoey soon discover the reasons why the town’s residents want her to stay quiet about the incident. The town holds an old legend… Zoey doesn’t believe the legend at first, that is, until the next full moon.

Changeling Moon is a brilliant and captivating new paranormal romance series. Dani Harper does a fantastic job in bringing her characters to life through her detailed descriptions and use of relatable emotions. Connor is a caring and handsome veterinarian with special abilities, and who will do everything he can to protect Zoey from being affected by the wolf’s bite. Zoey is a strong, determined, and passionate woman who feels an instant connection to Connor. There is enormous amount of bottled up lust and chemistry between these two characters from the very start, however, their connection may very well be their downfall.

My favorite elements of Changeling Moon are the various abilities presented within the novel. I enjoyed Dani Harper’s description of the Changelings, how their abilities are inherited through generations, however, a regular individual can also become a changeling through a single bite. The method to reverse the transition once a person has been bitten is also intriguing. Changeling Moon is a refreshing take on the usual shapeshifting novels. The beautiful cover captures some elements within the novel that may not be obvious at first, and incorporated into the story very nicely.

This novel is the start of a wonderful series. I recommend this Changeling Moon to those who enjoy Paranormal Romance and shapeshifter tales.

Must read! Highly Recommended!

Follow Friday (18)

Hey everyone!

This is the eighteenth Follow Friday posting on by blog.

For those of you who don't know, Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee at ParaJunkee's View where there’s a great opportunity to meet new bloggers!

This week’s question:

Follow Friday:  Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

My Answer:

I would love to meet a really great self-published author, and dear friend of mine, Lori Pescatore. She is such a wonderful person and it would be great to finally meet her in person after e-mailing back and forth! Her novels Human Blend and Earth Blend are really amazing!!! Definitely recommend her work!

Another author I would love to meet, is one of my favorites, and obvious choice, Kelley Armstrong. I have read nearly all her books and it would great to meet her! She is an awesome Canadian author who writes Paranormal Young Adult (Darkest Powers) and Adult fiction (Women of the Otherworld Series). MUST read her books if you haven't already!

Cassandra Clare would have to be the third author I would enjoy meeting. Loved her Mortal Instrument series!!! She is a talented writer and I would love to have the opportunity to get some advice!

**NOTE**: For those of you who follow me through Follow Friday make sure to leave your link so that I can follow back! :)

Have a lovely weekend all and Happy Reading!
