Author Guest Post With Robert Browne & GIVEAWAY!

Robert Browne has kindly agreed to guest post here and share his inspiration for becoming a writer in honor of his newest release, The Paradise Prophecy.

 About The Author:

Robert Browne believes his mission as a writer is to grab hold of you and keep you captive on the page until he's ready to let you go. He's the author of several supernatural thrillers, including THE PARADISE PROPHECY, the story of two desperate and seriously screwed-up mortals racing to find the solution to an ancient mystery and stop the Devil's dark angels from taking control of the world.

THE PARADISE PROPHECY received a coveted starred review from Publishers Weekly, which called it a "riveting, cinematic novel." Browne is an award-winning screenwriter and ITW Thriller Award-nominated novelist with a keen interest in angels, demons, and the history of the afterlife. In addition to writing thrillers, he composes music, plays the guitar and keyboards and has even been known to sing now and then. And you thought his books were scary.

He lives in California, where he is currently at work on the sequel (Source).

 Guest Post:

I ACTUALLY READ THE ARTICLES

Robert Browne

It all started with Playboy magazine.

I was a thirteen year old, babysitting our neighbor's kid for pocket money, and our neighbor had a habit of leaving magazines out on the coffee table.  Nothing unusual.  But one of those magazines happened to be Playboy, and for a thirteen year-old boy, this was akin to discovering gold.

After I put the little tyke to bed, I sat back on the couch and, with shaky hands, cracked open the magazine.  And as I leafed through the pages I discovered something I hadn't expected:  a serialized novel called Somebody Owes Me Money by a guy named Donald Westlake.

Yes, believe it or not, I actually read the articles.  Or the story, that is.  And the moment I read Westlake's opening line I found I was completely hooked.  Next thing I knew I'd finished the installment and went searching for the next issue—not for the photos, mind you, but because I just had to find out how the story ended.

His ability to do this to me simply with words was an epiphany.  Yes, my parents had always read to me at bedtime and I consumed every comic book in sight, but this was something different.  Something so much more powerful.  And it was at that moment that I realized I wanted to find a way to harness that power and use it myself.

I wanted to be a writer.

Today, I'm considerably older than that thirteen year-old and that desire has long been fulfilled.  After spending many years as a screenwriter, I'm now the author of five supernatural thrillers, the latest of which is The Paradise Prophecy.

The Paradise Prophecy is a long way from Donald Westlake, however.  In fact, one reviewer has called it Jim Butcher meets Dan Brown, but I like to think there's a fair amount of me in there as well.

Inspired by Milton's Paradise Lost, it's a modern-day, pedal-to-the-metal thriller about two seriously screwed-up mortals racing around the globe trying to prevent the Devil's dark angels from destroying mankind.

Hopefully, once you start reading it, you'll feel that same urgency I felt when I read Westlake's novel.  The need to find out how the story ends.

And if you don't, well, I guess you can just look at the pictures...

 The Paradise Prophecy:

Title: The Paradise Prophecy
Author: Robert Browne
Publisher: Dutton
Publication Date: July 21, 2011

A spectacular thriller inspired by John Milton's Paradise Lost in which the final chapter of the War in Heaven is about to play out on Earth, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

The Myth

When God cast the archangel Satan into Hell, ending the War in Heaven, peace prevailed on Earth. Until the fallen angels took revenge in the Garden of Eden. Ever since, mankind has been in a struggle between good and evil, paradise and apocalypse: the fall of Rome, The Crusades, World Wars, nuclear proliferation, the Middle East Crisis... The War in Heaven never really ended-it just changed venues. For millennia, God's angels have been fighting Satan's demons on Earth, all in hopes of bringing about Satan's greatest ambition, the Apocalypse.

The Reality

Satan has never been closer to his goal than right now.

Agent Bernadette Callahan is a talented investigator at a shadowy government organization known only as Section, on the trail of a serial killer with nearly supernatural abilities. Sebastian "Batty" LaLaurie is a religious historian who knows far too much about the other side- and that hard-earned knowledge is exactly what Callahan needs. This unlikely duo pair up for a race across the globe, decoding clues left in ancient texts from the Bible to Paradise Lost and beyond. In the process they stumble upon a vast conspiracy-one beyond the scope of mankind's darkest imagination (Source).
