Thank you, Lucy, for having me on your blog today. My name is Christy Hayes and I recently uploaded five of my books to Amazon, B&N and Smashwords as ebooks. It has been a fun and challenging process. I began writing in 2004 when my youngest child went to kindergarten after I read a book and thought, I can do better than that!
I’m going to talk about my book, Heart of Glass, a book that walks the line between contemporary romance and romantic women’s fiction. When magazine writer Kate Donovan is assigned to profile the building and architectural firm of her first and only love, she heads back to the South Carolina Low Country to face the demons she left behind. Nothing about Danny Flannery’s life is what Kate thought it would be and as the truth is revealed she longs for a big fat do-over. Danny’s made a success of his building firm but is hesitant to participate in a flashy magazine spread. He’s dead-set against it when he realizes the journalist sent to interview him is the only woman he’s ever loved and lost. Under pressure from his business partner, Danny agrees to sit down for an interview with the girl he once knew as Kat Fordham and realizes her name isn’t the only thing that’s changed. When Danny discovers Kate still wears the heart-shaped, sea-glass necklace he made for her years ago, they clear the air and their passion reignites. But Kate’s still keeping secrets to protect their fragile new relationship. With her family estranged and her career on the line, will she come clean before Danny finds out the truth and can Danny risk his heart again for the only woman he’s ever loved?
Heart of Glass came about after my family visited the Low Country on a weekend trip to Kiwah Island in South Carolina and the book takes place on fictional Andover and Echo islands. At the time of our visit, massive mansions were being built along the coast and I started thinking about a budding romance between a local boy and a rich summer resident. Heart of Glass has elements of classic romance with a good dose of family saga thrown in for depth. I plan to write a companion book featuring Danny’s architect business partner and the woman who steals his heart.
Writing this book and the others I’ve penned justifies my overactive imagination and status as a world-class daydreamer. I’ve used my love of writing (hence the journalism degree) to create stories I think people will enjoy. I’ve been blessed to have a very supportive husband who has indulged my need for hours in front of the computer and countless writers conferences trips. I’ve met many wonderful people along the way and made irreplaceable friendships. Because I’ve been so blessed, when I decided to go the indie-publishing route, I made the decision to give half of my proceeds from the sale of books to charity. My website (http://www.christyhayes.com) lists the five organizations I have chosen to support through this endeavor.
Thanks again for having me, Lucy, and I hope your readers will check out my books and website and leave a comment or two.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the perfect summer read. How generous of the author to share her sale proceeds with charities. I will look into this book.
