Author Interview With Lori Pescatore and Human Blend Giveaway!!!

Lori Pescatore kindly allowed me to interview her about Human Blend, her debut release. I really enjoyed this book and if you haven't read it yet...do so immediately!

 About The Author:

“A preschool teacher by day and a wife & mom by night. Although I love all of these titles, I can now add published author to the list of things I can consider myself. I was proud the day I got married, I was proud the day I gave birth to each of my boys, (now grown men) and I was proud when I got my certification to teach. My newest accomplishment in being a published author is my latest proud moment. Writing all my life for fun, family and friends, creating my own story and original characters has been a wonderful journey, one I hope is long lived. It is what I want the rest of my life to be about.
Human Blend is the first of a trilogy of books in the romance/fantasy/science fiction genre. It is what I love to read and what I love to write. I hope you enjoy my labor of love.” Source

Interview

Seeing that you’ve been writing for a while, please share with us what you enjoy most about writing?
I think the most enjoyable part about writing is when the characters take over the story and direct the action. I love hearing what they have to say and how they react to situations. Most of my books are character driven stories.

What do you think makes a good story?
I think a good story is created from likeable characters. I think you have to like and care about the characters for the story to carry itself.

When you are not writing or teaching, what do you like to do on your spare time?
In my spare time I love reading. There are so many amazing authors out there, some that I have had the pleasure of meeting online through the Paranormal Romance Guild. I love spending time with my husband and boys. My boys are all grown up so it is wonderful when we can all get together.

Name the top three books you can’t live without.
Eclipse, Poison Study , Interview with a Vampire

What are the first three things that come to mind when thinking about the paranormal genre?
The first three things that come to mind are Ghosts, Demons and Vampires

What inspired you to create such unique supernatural abilities belonging to the characters involved in “Human Blend”?
The inspiration came from the characters themselves. I'm a bit unusual as I do not plan too much out a head of time, at least for the first book in the series. The other two in the trilogy are all planned out but the first one just comes from the characters. I did want to do something that has not been done before, though, so that may have influenced my pattern of thinking and creating.

Which character in “Human Blend” do you think you relate to most?
Hmm relate to most... that is a tough one. I'm guessing my main Character Julie/Laney because she puts herself before others constantly. My husband complains I do that too much. I understand though because for me doing things for other people is what makes me happy.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
There could be several if one chooses to look deep enough. The more evident message would be that it is okay to trust some people in your life, even if the past has taught you otherwise. You may miss out on some great relationships if you can not learn to trust again.

Can you give us any hints on what’s in store for your readers in your next book in this trilogy?
The next book will act as  prequel in the first set of chapters, kinda filling you in on the paranormal creatures in the book and how and why they are there. It will lead up to the end of the fist book and continue from there. I think fans of the first book will enjoy the background information on some of the main characters.

Human Blend by Lori Pescatore

Title: Human Blend
Author:
Lori Pescatore
Publisher:
Self-published
Format:
Paperback, 230 pages
Date Published:
June 12, 2010
Overall: 4.5/5
Source: Won in contest/Sent by author

Marion, Virginia seemed like a nice place to live a normal life, but she is not a normal girl. Laney has special abilities that keep her looking over her shoulder as she makes her escape from the men who had kidnapped her. A young doctor's interest is piqued when he witnesses her mysteriously curing a young child's illness. He befriends her due to his growing fascination with uncovering the true nature of her abilities, but not without harboring secrets of his own. Laney's budding relationship with a local boy puts both of them in danger when the men she was hiding from find her. All of their lives will change forever as ancient secrets become unearthed.

 My Review:

Laney escapes from a life where she has been used by others for their own personal gain. Having escaped as far away as possible, Laney, now Julie Miller, finally gets to experience the life she never had before. She is immediately befriended by two individuals; Austin, a teen who soon becomes more than just a friend, and Eli, a doctor who is fascinated and intrigued by her supernatural abilities. She finds a job as a volunteer at a local hospital and develops numerous great relationships, however, Laney aka Julie is unceasingly aware that all this could be taken away from her in a split second if they’ find her.

Julie’s history and supernatural abilities are slowly unraveled throughout the course of the book. New characters appear throughout the story and they each serve a purpose in Julie’s quest to make a new life and at the same time, they help answer so many questions that lead her to discover who and what she really is.

Lori Pescatore’s self-published novel Human Blend will keep you wanting more. It is filled with mystery, romance and a paranormal twist. What immediately drew me to this story was the uniqueness of the characters. Lori Pescatore has a remarkable talent in creating such unique supernatural abilities which have not yet been seen in other books of this genre. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat, leaving you wanting to know more.

I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity of reading this book. It was very well-written, unique, filled with passion and mystery. I definitely recommend this book to all who enjoy paranormal novels, with plenty of romance and mystery! Human Blend is an enjoyable read with a cliffhanger ending, leaving you wanting to find out what comes next in the next book of this trilogy. I will be keeping an eye out for Lori Pescatore’s next book!

Fabulous Read, Highly Recommended

**Please Note: This review is my honest opinion and I received no monetary compensation from it.**

Follow Friday (3)

Hey everyone! This is the third Follow Friday posting on by blog.

This is hosted by Parajunkee at ParaJunkee's View where there’s a great opportunity to meet new bloggers.

This week’s question

Follow Friday: What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?

I have completed college in Communication studies and I am currently studying in Accountancy as a major and minoring in Management Information Systems in University. I do not have a full-time job as I am a full-time student at the moment however, I am looking to have a full-time job relating to my studies sometime in the near future :). It would be great if I can find something along the lines of Forensic Accounting or Enterprise Risk Management however, I am still hoping that someday I can find an opportunity where I can have a job relating to books *sigh*.

Waiting On Wednesday (1)

Welcome to the first Waiting on Wednesday here on my blog! For those of you who don’t know about Waiting on Wednesday, it is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking The Spine, in which we highlight an upcoming book release we're eagerly awaiting.

My selection for this Wednesday is The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong. This is part of Kelley’s “Darkest Powers” series. If you didn’t know before, Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors and I really encourage you all to read this teen series along with her adult series “Women of The Otherworld” if you have not yet done so!

For those of you who follow me through Waiting on Wednesday, please add your link in the comments below so that I can kindly return the favor!

Maya lives in a small medical-research town on Vancouver Island. How small? You can’t find it on the map. It has less than two-hundred people, and her school has only sixty-eight students—for every grade from kindergarten to twelve.

Now, strange things are happening in this claustrophobic town, and Maya’s determined to get to the bottom of them. First, the captain of the swim team drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. A year later, mountain lions start appearing around Maya’s home, and they won’t go away. Her best friend, Daniel, starts experiencing “bad vibes” about certain people and things. It doesn’t help that the new bad boy in town, Rafe, has a dangerous secret—and he’s interested in one special part of Maya’s anatomy: Her paw-print birthmark.

This week’s question

Follow Friday: Do you have an under-noticed author that you think we should all know about?

I can't think of anyone that is under-noticed however, these authors do need more recognition for their work.

My personal favorite books would have to be from the Study Series which you can find here: Poison Study(Book 1) Magic Study(Book 2)  Fire Study(Book 3). Life Is Good Award!

I’m really excited to have been given this award! It's the second award I have received since I’ve began my blog on November 28, 2010 (8 days ago wow!).  I would like to thank Caroline at (Bon Bons and Reveries) http://bonbonsandreveries.blogspot.com for giving me this award and all my friends, readers and followers that have been so amazing and supportive!!!

Life is Good Award Rules:

1.  Thank and link back to the person that gave this award.
2.  Answer the 10 survey questions below.
3.  Pass the award along to other bloggers whom you think are fantastic.
4.  Contact the bloggers you've picked to let them know about the award.

The Questions:

1.  If you blog anonymously, are you happy doing this; if you are not anonymous, do you wish that you had started out anonymously so that you could be anonymous now?
My Answer:  I decided not to blog anonymously, (apart having an alias as Moonlight Gleam to fit the name of my blog), because I think it’s great having the opportunity to meet other bloggers and sharing common interests online. It’s nice knowing I’m not the only book-a-holic out there haha!

2.  Describe an incident that shows your inner stubborn side.
My Answer:  I would say the only (re-occurring) incident that could show my inner stubborn side is … refusing to make my bed when I will be staying home all day no matter how many times my parents rant about how “someone might be coming over so it has to be clean”. OH-MY-GEE mom, dad, no one should be going in my room other than me okay? :) haha. (Yes this is also an excuse to get out of cleaning up lol)

3.  What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?
My Answer:  Wow this is a tough one, a little embarrassing too ... I see someone who is slowly but surely, building up her confidence after having been called a failure, been bullied and been hurt. Underneath all that, I’m optimistic, open-minded and determined to prove some people of the past and present wrong.

4.  What is your favorite summer cold drink?
My Answer:  I have two! Haha Smirnoff-Ice and Second Cup’s Iced Chocolate Chillatte - DELISH!!!

5.  When you take time for yourself, what do you do?

My Answer:  READ! Lol I think that was a given haha, I also listen to music, take pictures and try to organize my room (*cough cough*.. Key word “TRY”) lol!

6.  Is there something that you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?
My Answer:  Definitely! *Takes a deep breath* I plan on volunteering a lot more in the following year. I would like to finish my Bachelor degree in accountancy, get a job at an accounting firm and hopefully continue on to become a Chartered Accountant (aiming high yes lol). I would also love to someday have my very own gothic styled library room in my future house, just like the one in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast :). Last but not least, perhaps someday open my own photo studio as I have mentioned before that I have a passion for photography.
If there were a lot more opportunities out there, my ideal career would include anything involving books. I’ve always enjoyed reading as well as writing my own material. It is something I’m very passionate about.

7.  When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching?
My Answer: In high school I was the shy girl in class and got bullied a lot; however, I was involved in many volunteer programs such as: Reading Buddies, Big Brother Big Sister Program, Peer Mediation, Media Club, and the Terry Fox Program. Now that I’m in University, I’m a lot more confident, social and enjoy making friends and meeting new faces.

8.  If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment in your life, what would you see?
My Answer:  The day I switched programs from Communications to Accounting. I let go of a program I was very passionate about but realized that I needed a compromise to be able to support myself in the future. I want more opportunities for myself, for my family (years from now) and I have realized that I can become successful through determination and hard work. I can follow my dream to becoming anything I want to be; but in order to get there; there are some basic stepping tones I must face.

9.  Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?
My Answer:  I do feel comfortable sharing my true self with other through my blog; however, I don’t want my blog revolve around me and would exclude any negativity. Instead I would rather discuss something that would benefit my readers and also discuss our common interests.

10.  If you had the choice to sit down and read a book or talk on the phone which would you do and why?
My Answer:  I would read a book hands down ... unless Brad Pitt called haha jk! I do however, enjoy talking on the phone with my boyfriend/best friend of nearly 4 years. He is the love of my life; I would stop everything to share every moment with him (corny yes but true) :).

Here are the great bloggers with amazing blogs which I award the Life is Good Award to!:

First I'll begin with sending this right back to Caroline because her blog is sooo awesome!!!

My E-Reader Dilemma!

Hey everyone!!!

I have successfully convinced my parents to get me an e-reader for Christmas! Yay! However, I have run into a tiny little problem… I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH ONE TO ASK FOR!!!! They all look so amazing and they all have the same basic features.

I would love to get all of your opinions on this! Help me out on this one?

Keep in mind that I live in Canada and my parents don't know how to use the computer. They would need to go buy the e-reader in person and don't want me to order anything online on their behalf, so the Kindle will not be an option for me :(

Please leave a comment with the e-reader you have or would love to get based on reviews or friends and family. Don't forget to mention how much you like it!

Thank you!

Follow Friday (1)!

Hey everyone! This is the first Follow Friday posting on by blog.
This is hosted by Parajunkee at ParaJunkee's View where there’s a great opportunity to meet new bloggers.

This week’s question
Follow Friday: What do you do besides reading / reviewing as a hobby??

I have a passion for photography. It was actually something I’ve really wanted to pursue as a career choice and still remains as one of my personal goals in the future. I also enjoy learning new languages on my spare time. So far I know (aside from English) French, Italian, Spanish and beginner Greek. :)

For those of you who follow me through Follow Friday make sure to leave your link so that I can follow back! :)

Versatile Blogger Award: Passing It On

This morning I received a pleasant surprise! I was given a Versatile Blogger Award from aobibliophile at aobibliosphere

I just wanted to blog about this to show my deep appreciation from the support I have been given. Thank you so much aobibliophile I truly appreciate this kind gesture.

How The Versatile Blogger Award Works:
1. thank the person who gave the award and link back to him or her
 2. write 7 things about yourself that you might want others to know
 3. pass the VB award along to 15 other bloggers whom you have recently discovered and who you think are great
 4. contact the bloggers you have chosen and let them know about the VB award

7 Things About Myself:
1. Aside from reading, another one of my passions is photography
2. I can speak English, French, Italian, little Spanish and very little Greek (I enjoy learning new languages)
3. I’ve always wanted to bake cakes like Cake Boss from TLC
4. I’ll always pick sushi if given the option for meals
5. My favorite color is purple because it combines my other two favorite colors (pink and blue lol)
6. I enjoy dancing to traditional Italian and Greek music
7. I’ve been planning on creating my blog for over a year and finally got the courage create one 4 days ago!

Passing the VB blogging award to 15 other bloggers:
There is no particular order of the blogs I have listed below, they are all great blogs that I have been following and have showed me support in return. I’d like to start off with aobibliophile's blog to show my appreciation.

Congratulations to the 15 bloggers/blogs that I have chosen!
It would be great if you all could check them out and show them some love for all their hard work!
